A news site that some people cannot read is a broken news site. We aim at WCAG 2.2 level AA, and we would rather hear about a failure than not.

What we do

• Text and interface colours are checked against the AA contrast minimum in both light and dark themes. An earlier palette failed at 3.55:1 and was corrected.
• Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard and shows a visible focus ring.
• The page is a single column of real headings, lists and links, so screen readers and reader modes get a sensible document rather than a grid of boxes.
• Type scales with your browser’s text size; nothing is pinned to pixels.
• The site follows your system light or dark preference.
• Motion is minimal, and what exists is disabled under prefers-reduced-motion.
• We use no images in stories, so there are no unlabelled ones.

What we know is imperfect

We have not had the site audited by anyone but ourselves, and self-assessment finds the problems you thought to look for. Tables of source lists on narrow screens and the admin interface have had the least attention.
