Anthropic updates user policy to limit abuse toward Claude AI
Anthropic has updated its usage policy to prohibit users from engaging in sustained, needless cruel behavior toward its Claude AI models. The company says this rule targets extreme cases, and does not apply to ordinary user frustration, creative exploration, or research. If users violate the policy, Claude may end the conversation, but access to other chats remains. The new policy, which also adds rules on deceptive campaigns and misuse, takes effect November 12.
- Sustained cruel behavior to Claude now prohibited
- Policy aims at repeated, purposeless abuse
- Enforcement relies on conversation termination by Claude
- Other major policy updates target deception and misuse
- Rules take effect November 12, 2026
