Cloudflare launches Auto Router to cut AI model costs
Cloudflare has rolled out a public beta of Auto Router, a feature inside its AI Gateway that smartly picks the cheapest AI model capable of handling each user request. Instead of letting employees manually select—often overpowered and expensive—models for every task, Auto Router decides on the fly which model is sufficient. In internal tests, Cloudflare saw up to 30% lower AI costs compared to defaulting to premium models like OpenAI's or Anthropic's.
- Auto Router is now in public beta
- Routes requests to the most cost-effective model
- Showed up to 30% internal cost savings
- Works across technical and non-technical workflows
