Apple Cash to require ID for all balance reloads November 9
Apple will require all users to verify their identity when adding funds to Apple Cash starting November 9, according to notices sent to customers. Green Dot Bank, Apple's banking partner, says this replaces the prior requirement, which only applied over a $500 limit. Apple also signaled plans to let users fund Apple Cash directly from a bank or merchant, but has not set a date for that feature. The updates aim to bolster security and meet regulatory rules.
- ID verification required for all reloads from Nov. 9
- Previous $500 threshold for verification removed
- Unverified users cannot add or transfer funds
- Bank or merchant funding to be added in the future
- Apple cites fraud and regulatory compliance
