Apple Pay debuts in India with Axis Bank
Apple Pay is launching in India today in partnership with Axis Bank, starting with credit cards on Visa and Mastercard. The rollout is limited to select merchants and won't support India's RuPay card network at launch. Other major banks like HDFC, ICICI, and SBI are not participating yet as negotiations over fees continue. India's digital payments market is dominated by UPI, but Apple is targeting iPhone users accustomed to card payments.
