Automattic's founder and CEO, Matt Mullenweg, told staff he was put on paid leave by a board vote, over his objections. Chief Financial Officer Mark Davies was named interim CEO. Mullenweg said he wasn't allowed time to consult independent counsel before the decision. He'll stay on the board, but will step back from running the company.

Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion

Apple plans to announce its first foldable iPhone at an event this Wednesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. Pacific. The company is also expected to show the iPhone 18 Pro line, new Apple Watches, and updated AirPods. It’s the first launch event with John Ternus as CEO, replacing Tim Cook, who’ll stay on as Executive Chair. Ternus told staff the upcoming launch will be “phenomenal.”
Apple sets iOS 27 launch for September 14
Apple says iOS 27 drops Monday, September 14, bringing its overhauled Siri AI assistant. Siri AI’s launching as a beta, but only in English at first—other major languages follow in October. Siri AI is powered in part by Google’s Gemini models and needs recent hardware: iPhone 15 Pro and newer, or specific iPads running M1 chips. The update also adds a new UI slider for screen transparency and more granular volume controls.
