Rare AMD Ryzen 9 5900X3D engineering sample revealed
A previously unseen engineering sample of AMD's cancelled Ryzen 9 5900X3D has appeared on a Chinese forum. Unlike earlier prototypes that stacked extra cache on both chiplets, this 12-core chip features 128 MB of L3 cache with the 3D V-Cache present only on one of its two core clusters. This unusual configuration lets it reach boost speeds up to 4.7 GHz, higher than earlier dual V-Cache prototypes. AMD never commercially released this model.
- 12-core, 24-thread unreleased Zen 3 chip
- 128 MB L3 cache, 3D V-Cache only on one chiplet
- Spotted running at up to 4.7 GHz boost
- Retrofit required older firmware to work
- Never sold in stores; unique variant not shown before
