MantaxOtax Android malware combines spying and ransomware
Researchers at Zimperium have identified MantaxOtax, an Android malware strain that both spies on user activity and encrypts files for ransom. The malware can capture messages, credentials, device data, and remotely monitor infected phones. Once installed, it locks the device, encrypts accessible files, and displays a ransom demand. Zimperium attributes the malware to threat actors in Indonesia and reports it spreads through third-party app stores and file sharing.
