GalaxEye gets US patent for satellite imaging tech
GalaxEye, an Indian spacetech startup, just received a US patent for its OptoSAR satellite imaging technology. OptoSAR allows a single satellite to capture earth images with both optical and radar sensors at the same time, in any weather and lighting. GalaxEye launched its first OptoSAR satellite in May, lost contact after a solar storm in July, but says key tech was validated. The company plans up to 30 such satellites in five years.

Scientists publish full brain map for male fruit fly

Isar Aerospace, a German company, has become the first in Europe to launch a fully commercial rocket into orbit. The two-stage Spectrum rocket reached low-Earth orbit on Saturday after lifting off from Norway's Andøya Spaceport. No European private company had previously accomplished this. Company leaders called it a new chapter for European spaceflight and said they aim to expand production to fulfill existing orders.
Google analyzes limits of genetic disease tests for non-Europeans
Google researchers looked at how well genetic risk models—used to forecast disease risk—work for Japanese populations when originally based on European genetic data. They ran experiments mixing UK Biobank (mostly European) and Biobank Japan samples to predict eight health traits. The study found that models built mostly on European data performed worse in Japanese individuals. Larger ancestry-specific data helped, but didn’t fully close the gap.
