NASA funds 5G network development for future Moon missions
NASA just picked Modulate Space Corporation for a $38 million contract to build and test 5G and Wi-Fi 6 communications gear for the Moon. The project covers both a lab demo on Earth and a field trial on the lunar surface, aimed at eventually supporting Moon base operations. Work starts in October 2026 and runs through the end of 2028, with hardware, software, and firmware development included.
