NASA Venus probe passes heat endurance test
NASA has successfully tested the engineering model of its DAVINCI probe, exposing it to 869°F (465°C) in a ceramic-lined chamber to simulate the conditions it will face when descending through Venus's atmosphere. The test aimed to confirm that the probe can survive these extreme temperatures, which are comparable to those on Venus's surface. DAVINCI is designed to study the planet's atmosphere, composition, and history once it arrives.
- DAVINCI probe heated to 869°F in lab test
- Chamber mimicked Venusian descent conditions
- Test confirms probe's heat endurance
- DAVINCI will analyze Venus's atmosphere and chemistry
