Researchers boost quantum dot photon similarity to 90%
A team from Paderborn University, University of Basel, and Ruhr University Bochum has developed a new method that increases the similarity of photons made by semiconductor quantum dots from 60% to 90%. By placing quantum dots inside a carefully tuned optical cavity, they managed to control and speed up how the dots emit photons. This advance could help future quantum communication networks transmit information more reliably.
- Photon similarity raised from 60% to 90%
- Used semiconductor quantum dots with optical cavity
- Improves purity by reducing emission distortions
- Helps create better light sources for quantum computing
- Some limits remain due to crystal vibrations
