TDK demos new ultra-thin retinal projection smart glasses tech
TDK has shown a prototype display for smart glasses that projects images directly onto the retina using an ultra-thin mirror only 150 nanometers thick. Unlike traditional designs, this flat 'meta-optic' mirror can be embedded right into ordinary-looking lenses and largely preserves their transparency. The tech currently supports monochrome, with full-color and mass production planned in a few years.
- Mirror is just 150 nanometers thick
- Allows 80% light transmittance in lenses
- Images remain hidden from bystanders
- Aims for full-color and mass production soon
- TDK is collaborating with QD Laser
