Googlebook OS boots on Apple Silicon Macs via open-source mod
A developer has released an open-source method to run Googlebook OS, Google's new ARM64 operating system, on Apple Silicon Macs using a GPU-accelerated virtual machine. The approach uses the Dell XPS Googlebook recovery image and adapts it for virtualized hardware, allowing Chrome to function but with notable bugs, including Bluetooth and audio issues. The project is aimed at developers and is not intended for secure use, as it lacks hardware-based key protection.
- Googlebook OS now boots on Apple Silicon Macs
- Project uses a virtual machine and MoltenVK for graphics
- Bugs include Bluetooth failure and audio issues
- Runs only on ARM-based Macs, not Intel models
- Security features like hardware key protection are missing
