Rewind bought by HIG Growth Partners to expand cloud backup
Rewind, the Ottawa-based data backup company, was bought this summer by HIG Growth Partners. Founders Mike Potter and James Ciesielski remain the biggest individual shareholders after HIG. Some early backers partially cashed out, but Inovia and Insight kept some of their stake. Rewind wants to use its new private equity support to expand backup coverage across more cloud platforms, especially as AI is driving more unpredictable changes to SaaS data.
- Rewind majority stake sold to HIG Growth Partners
- Founders remain significant shareholders
- Some early investors reduced but didn't exit holdings
- AI-driven SaaS changes are driving new customer demand
- Deal aims to expand backup to more cloud services
