AI expected to boost software engineer productivity by 32%
A new study from US economists finds that, between late 2022 and 2025, financial markets now expect AI to permanently raise software engineer productivity by 32.6%. The researchers used stock price reactions to AI news to estimate how much companies relying on software engineers stand to benefit. The result isn’t a guaranteed real-world increase at every company, but it’s what investors are baking into prices.
- Study analyzed stock prices for AI's impact
- Estimate covers November 2022 to December 2025
- Productivity boost applies to non-tech sectors
- Markets predict a long-term effect, not just a bump
