Google restricting free and Plus Gemini access to AI models

Google is changing which Gemini AI models you can use, depending on your subscription. Starting October 9, free users will be limited to the basic Flash-Lite model, losing access to both Flash and Pro. AI Plus subscribers, who pay $4.99 a month, also lose Pro and keep only Flash and Flash-Lite. Higher-priced AI Pro and AI Ultra plans aren’t losing models; instead, AI Pro gets an upgraded Deep Think mode for tougher questions.

Why it mattersIf you rely on Gemini’s smarter AI models but aren’t paying for top-tier plans, you’ll lose features. The move pushes free and low-cost users to pay more for advanced AI capabilities, mirroring competing services like ChatGPT.
