Amazon vows $1B to communities as AI data centers face backlash
Amazon will spend $1 billion over five years supporting U.S. communities near its data centers, in a bid to counter mounting local resistance to its expanding AI infrastructure. The company also pledged to drop nondisclosure agreements with local governments, publish energy and water use, and fund job training and energy upgrades. CEO Matt Garman warned that over 100 data center moratoriums are being considered, which could threaten U.S. AI competitiveness.
