WhatsApp rolls out optional parental controls for teens
WhatsApp is giving parents new, optional controls over their teenagers' accounts. With this update, parents can set who can interact with their teen, get notified about group activity, manage privacy settings, and restrict access to WhatsApp's Meta AI assistant. Messages remain private thanks to end-to-end encryption. These tools are PIN-protected and can be switched off at any time. The move comes as regulators push tech companies to do more for child safety online.
- Controls cover group activity, channels, and privacy settings
- Parents can choose stricter Meta AI access for teens
- Settings require a parent-set PIN to adjust or disable
- Messages and calls remain fully private
- Regulatory pressure is pushing for stricter online child safety
