Drone attack shuts down Yandex data center in Russia

Yandex confirmed it suspended operations at its Sasovo data center in western Russia after a drone strike caused a fire on Thursday. The facility, one of Yandex's largest, hosts key infrastructure and reportedly two of its three main supercomputers for AI development. The shutdown has disrupted several Yandex services. There were no injuries, and emergency teams are responding. The extent of damage to Yandex's supercomputers remains unclear.

Why it mattersThe closure of this major data center could impact Russian internet services and disrupt development of leading AI projects using Yandex’s infrastructure. Ongoing attacks on technology infrastructure increase operational vulnerabilities for tech firms in active conflict zones.
