Astera Labs launches Orion modular AI rack architecture
Astera Labs has launched Orion, a modular rack-scale reference design that lets customers pick their own GPU and CPU, aiming to speed up and simplify building large-scale AI infrastructure. Orion uses a high-performance PCIe-based interconnect and comes as a complete system—including hardware trays and management software—to help data centers deploy AI workloads quickly, no matter which accelerator chips are available.
- Orion supports up to 160 accelerators per pod
- The system uses open standards for hardware flexibility
- Orion includes integrated management and monitoring software
- Operators can swap GPUs and CPUs without rack redesign
