Intel adds Crescent Island GPU support to media driver
Intel's Media Driver update for 2026Q3 will support the forthcoming 'Crescent Island' GPU, based on the Xe3P architecture. Contrary to earlier belief that it would only handle AI inference, the GPU will also offer video acceleration for editing, decoding, and encoding workloads. The initial Intel-branded version includes 32 Xe3P cores, 256 XMX engines, 32MB of L2 cache, and 160GB of LPDDR5X memory, with configurations for more VRAM possible.
- Media Driver 2026Q3 adds Crescent Island GPU support
- Initial version has 160GB LPDDR5X, up to 480GB by ODMs
- Supports video editing, decoding, encoding, and AI inferencing
- No graphics display output in current silicon
- Further SKUs and features are not yet detailed
