Developers return to SQL and vanilla JavaScript
Some software developers are shifting back to basics, using SQL directly instead of newer database tools and writing more plain JavaScript over TypeScript. According to InfoWorld, SQL is making a comeback both in browsers and server code, while TypeScript is being reduced to a code-checking tool for JavaScript. Developers seem to prefer simplicity over added layers and newer abstractions.
- SQL is regaining ground over object-relational mappers
- Plain JavaScript is edging out TypeScript in some projects
- TypeScript is acting more as a linter than a compiler
- SQL is spreading due to WebAssembly in browsers
