Google Cloud adds transactional messaging to Spanner
Google Cloud has rolled out native messaging queues in Spanner, its distributed database. Now, AI agents and other apps can update internal state and enqueue tasks in a single transaction, so decisions and downstream actions always stay in sync. Before this, developers had to juggle state changes and external message queues, risking failures and data mismatches. The new Spanner queues feature is now publicly available.
- Spanner queues are built into Google's distributed database
- Messaging and state changes now commit atomically
- Agents can schedule tasks or delayed actions within transactions
- Streaming support lets agent workers process tasks as they arrive
