Google Cloud debuts GKE CPU startup boost preview
Google Cloud is testing a new feature called CPU startup boost for its Kubernetes service (GKE). When you launch a container, GKE temporarily gives it extra CPU power so apps start faster, then dials resources back to normal after initialization—all without restarting the container. Google claims this can cut startup times by up to half and lower cloud costs by avoiding permanent over-provisioning.
- CPU boost granted only during app initialization
- No container restart needed for the resource change
- Integrated with GKE's Vertical Pod Autoscaler
- Feature is currently available in preview
