Brookhaven Lab Drives Quantum Hardware Research
Charles Black, now leading a national quantum research effort at Brookhaven Lab, is focusing on how superconducting materials—like tantalum—might make it possible to build quantum computers at scale. His team is tackling the physical challenges of creating more reliable quantum bits (qubits) and developing hardware that's easier to manufacture in larger quantities. This work draws on Black’s long experience in materials science and semiconductor research.
- Charles Black named head of Brookhaven quantum program
- Team investigates superconductors to improve qubits
- Focuses on materials that aid in large-scale manufacturing
- Effort includes 28 research institutions nationwide
