Figure destroys old robots in Finnish steel furnace
US robotics company Figure has destroyed its now-obsolete Figure 02 humanoid robots by melting them in a 75-ton steel furnace in Finland. The company said dismantling was impractical due to proprietary technology and time constraints. Instead, the robots were programmed to walk into the molten steel, following a suggestion from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Figure is selling metal bars made from the remains of the robots as collector items.
- Figure wanted to prevent leaks of proprietary technology
- Standard dismantling seen as too slow and resource-intensive
- Robots were programmed for autonomous movement into furnace
- Destruction took place at a steel plant in Finland
- Remnants are being sold as collector metal bars
