Germany advances six consortia in €640M quantum challenge
Germany’s research ministry has moved six teams of companies and universities to the next stage of its €640 million quantum hardware competition. Each group focuses on one of three leading quantum processor technologies: neutral atoms, trapped ions, or superconducting circuits. The goal is to build at least two fault-tolerant quantum processors by 2030. Shortlisted teams must first present working prototypes by March 2027 to stay in the running.
- €640 million total funding for six consortia
- Targets neutral atoms, trapped ions, superconducting circuits
- At least two processors must be built by 2030
- Interim working systems due by March 2027
- Selected teams include startups and major universities
