QNu Labs runs India's first 5.5 km quantum key link
QNu Labs and two Indian institutions have completed a successful 5.56 km open-air quantum key distribution test, the first of its kind in India at this distance. Using custom hardware, they managed to securely send encryption keys and data between BISAG-N and IIT Gandhinagar, keeping errors low and stability high despite atmospheric turbulence. The demo also integrated with post-quantum cryptography, layering security even if the quantum link drops.
- 5.56 km free-space quantum key demo completed overnight
- Link operated below 5% error rate
- Delivered one 256-bit key per second
- Combined quantum and post-quantum cryptography for redundancy
- Demonstrated resilient optical beam tracking system
