Satellite shows record Pacific storm season in 2026
Satellite photos show this year’s Pacific hurricane season is far above normal, with 20 named storms and 9 hurricanes by late September—both well over the average. Hurricane Polo hit Baja California Sur as a Category 2 after briefly reaching Category 5 over warm waters, causing damage and flooding. Near Hawaii, Hurricane Nolo dumped more than a foot of rain on parts of the islands. Accumulated cyclone energy is more than double the historical norm.
