KitchenAid unveils new stand mixer with illuminated glass bowl

KitchenAid has rolled out the Luminaire, a stand mixer with a glowing, hardened glass bowl and built-in LED light. The bowl is newly redesigned with fluted sides, top-mounted handles, and reinforced glass. The mixer launches in a distinctive blue shade for $699.99, and comes with stainless steel accessories. Only five matching commercial-style ranges in the same color will also be made, according to TechRadar.

Why it mattersIf you care about both aesthetics and function in your appliances, this is one of the few major design upgrades to mixers in years. The illuminated bowl is meant to make baking easier — and maybe make your counter a little fancier.
