Modders run SteamOS on Android gaming handhelds
Modders are loading Valve’s SteamOS onto Android-based gaming handhelds—devices originally built for mobile games—by using Valve’s newly ported compatibility software for ARM chips. Originally meant for Valve’s upcoming VR headset, this move lets Snapdragon and other ARM-powered handhelds run PC games via SteamOS, not just Android apps. Valve isn’t making this official, but the community is doing it anyway.
- SteamOS ported to ARM by Valve for VR headset
- Modding community adapts it for Android handhelds
- Enables x86 PC games on ARM-based portables
- Valve not officially supporting these mods
