RTX 5090 mod adds board to cut connector overheating risk
A Reddit user designed and installed a custom add-on board that spreads the RTX 5090 GPU’s power demand across three inputs instead of one. This aims to fix the widespread melting issue with the 12VHPWR power connector. After running for 48 hours at 550W, the wires stayed under 40°C. While the mod’s long-term reliability isn’t clear, the early results are promising for keeping high-end GPUs cooler.
- Custom board spreads power over three connectors
- Tested for 48 hours at full load, wires stayed cool
- Wire temperature never topped 40°C under stress
- Long-term reliability is still uncertain
