Capcom overhauls RE Engine for AI-driven game development
Capcom is revamping its in-house game engine, RE Engine, into a platform called REX that supports AI-driven development. At a recent tech event, Capcom said the overhaul will let AI write code, test games, and spot bugs automatically. The changes include making the engine easier for both humans and AI to read. Some REX tools have been open-sourced to help train AI, but these upgrades won't impact in-game art or content.
- RE Engine upgraded to new REX platform
- AI will help automate coding and bug checks
- REX unified under widely-used programming language
- Open source releases target AI training
- No plans for AI-generated game art or assets
