Shopify unveils Canvas for AI-powered store creation
Shopify just launched Canvas, a tool that lets merchants create and edit their online stores by chatting with an AI assistant called Sidekick. Instead of tweaking templates or writing code, you describe the changes you want, and the AI makes them live—showing real-time results on the actual site, not just a preview. For now, Canvas is desktop-only and missing some features, but Shopify says it will be expanded over time.
- Chat-driven store editing with Shopify's Sidekick AI
- Real-time updates directly on actual store code
- Full-site 'zoom out' view for easier branding checks
- Desktop-only and missing some features at launch
- Direct editing remains an option if you prefer
