Apple ordered to pay Masimo $184M interest on patent case
A federal judge has ordered Apple to pay Masimo an additional $184 million in pre-judgment interest after a jury last year found Apple infringed Masimo's patent on low-power pulse oximeter technology in the Apple Watch. This adds to the $634 million in damages Apple was already ordered to pay, bringing the total to around $818 million. The interest reflects compensation for the time Masimo was deprived of royalty payments.
- Apple owes Masimo $634M plus $184M in interest
- Interest calculated using Masimo's borrowing rate, not 7%
- Total bill reaches about $818M, not counting further interest
- Case concerns expired patent on pulse oximeter technology
- Ruling affects past Apple Watch models, not current ones
