Microsoft tests dark mode in old Windows 11 system tools

Microsoft's added dark mode to Hyper-V Manager, a virtual machine tool in Windows 11 that's built on old Win32 code. But the update's unfinished: some screens and side tools still stick to the light theme, leaving a mix of styles. Only parts of Hyper-V Manager are actually dark, while others—including key views—haven't changed yet. Full dark mode support for all legacy elements is still a work in progress.

Why it mattersThe lack of consistent dark mode reminds you how many parts of Windows still run on old frameworks. Until Microsoft finishes this design overhaul, users get a patchwork experience—especially if you rely on system management tools.
