GLP-1 drugs linked to slower aging, reduced Alzheimer’s risk
Researchers are seeing more potential in diabetes and weight loss drugs like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy). A new year-long study of nearly a million US diabetes patients found that those on semaglutide had a 40% to 70% lower chance of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, compared to standard diabetes meds. Meanwhile, data presented at a conference showed these drugs might also slow down molecular aging markers by several years, though evidence is still early.
- Semaglutide linked to lower Alzheimer’s risk in diabetics
- Study covered nearly a million US patients
- GLP-1 drugs may slow biological aging markers
- Data on aging presented at anti-aging research conference
- Findings are preliminary, not definitive proof
