Google backs $4.3B nuclear plant upgrade for data center demand
Google has agreed to a $4.3 billion deal with Constellation Energy to modernize six nuclear plant sites in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Upgrades across 11 reactors should add 890 megawatts of power to the PJM grid—the same as building a new large reactor—helping meet the soaring energy needs of Google’s U.S. data centers. Google will also provide cloud AI tools to optimize these upgrades.
