Xanadu moves quantum chip manufacturing to GlobalFoundries
Xanadu signed a multi-year partnership with GlobalFoundries to mass-produce photonic quantum hardware at GF’s 300 mm chip plant in New York. The work centers on industrializing two parts: ultra-low-loss waveguides for routing single photons, and ultra-sensitive detectors to read quantum outcomes. This shifts Xanadu from lab prototypes into commercial-scale hardware manufacturing for its upcoming quantum computers.
- 300 mm semiconductor lines used for manufacturing
- Focus on silicon nitride circuits and nanowire photon detectors
- First large-scale production for Xanadu's photonic modules
- Manufacturing based in Malta, New York
- Aims to support fault-tolerant quantum demonstrators
