IBM enters third phase of DARPA quantum testing
IBM is moving to the third stage of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) Quantum Benchmarking Initiative. In this phase, DARPA's engineers will directly assess IBM's quantum hardware and systems to see if they're on track for what's called a 'fault-tolerant' quantum computer—one that corrects its own errors. IBM aims to demonstrate the Quantum Starling system, its next-generation fault-tolerant machine, by 2029.
- IBM enters hands-on DARPA quantum validation phase
- Stage C shifts focus to real hardware evaluation
- Quantum Starling system targeted for 2029 launch
- DARPA aims for cost-effective quantum utility by 2033
