Infineon and ZuriQ expand quantum chip partnership
Infineon Technologies and Zurich-based startup ZuriQ are deepening their partnership to scale a new kind of quantum chip using a two-dimensional trapped-ion design. Their joint work already demonstrated a 3x3 grid of nine individual ion qubits—the largest array of its kind. Now, Infineon’s industrial chip-making and ZuriQ’s quantum know-how aim to push this hardware toward higher qubit counts by relying on standard semiconductor tools and integrated photonics.
- ZuriQ spun out of ETH Zurich in 2024
- Validated 9-qubit 2D micro-trap array, a record for this setup
- 2D approach eliminates radio-frequency heating issues
- ZuriQ raised $25.5 million in seed funding in July 2026
- Infineon brings industrial chip manufacturing and packaging
