IonQ achieves record quantum node entanglement speed
Quantum hardware company IonQ has linked a trapped ion qubit to a diamond-based quantum memory, achieving a record-breaking 1,032 entangled pairs per second with nearly 88% fidelity. This is four times faster than previous trapped-ion benchmarks. The new technique uses a single-photon protocol, boosting efficiency and sidestepping a major obstacle in distributed quantum computing networks.
- 1,032 entangled pairs per second, a new record
- Achieved 87.9% state fidelity between nodes
- Single-photon protocol increases connection efficiency
- Demonstration paired ion and diamond quantum nodes
- Enables more scalable, efficient quantum networks
