Webb Telescope reveals new details of stellar nursery NGC 7129
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured new details inside the NGC 7129 nebula, a star-forming region about 3,300 light-years away. By using its infrared sensitivity, Webb revealed stars in various development stages that were previously hidden by dust clouds. The central, most massive star is about 5 to 8 times heavier than our Sun and is in a late stage before starting hydrogen fusion. The image also shows young protostars and the effects of their powerful outflows on the surrounding gas.
- NGC 7129 is 3,300 light-years from Earth
- Webb’s infrared vision pierces dusty star birth clouds
- Central star weighs roughly 5–8 solar masses
- Image shows both newer protostars and older pre-main-sequence stars
