32GB now most common RAM size in gaming PCs on Steam
According to Steam's September 2026 hardware survey, 32GB of RAM has overtaken 16GB as the most popular memory size among gaming PCs, despite a continuing global memory chip shortage and rising prices. 42.2% of Steam users now report 32GB, up nearly 5% from last month, while 16GB dropped to about 38%. Analysts note a sharp rise in high-end configs, partly due to a surge in new Chinese users.
- 32GB RAM jumped to 42.2% of Steam gaming PCs
- 16GB share dropped by 3.4% to 37.8%
- Smaller increases in 24GB and 48GB configurations
- Analysts credit a surge of Chinese users for the sharp shift
- RAM shortages and high prices continue worldwide
