Amazon launches faster Fire TV Stick 4K with Vega OS

Amazon's new Fire TV Stick 4K is out now for $59.99, running on Amazon's own Vega OS instead of Android. Amazon claims it's 20-40% faster than similar 4K streaming sticks and now supports powering through your TV’s USB port. The redesigned remote ditches the traditional Alexa button, adds more TV controls, and will be available standalone. Sideloading apps is no longer supported.

Why it mattersThis release marks Amazon’s move away from Android, aiming for a faster, more controlled device environment—but at the cost of flexibility for users who sideload apps. If you’ve built your setup around custom software, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
