Atari 800XL gets a modern re-release, pre-orders open
Atari is bringing back its 800XL home computer from the early '80s in a redesigned package, with pre-orders now open at $219. The new THE 800XL, built by Retro Games Ltd., keeps the original’s look but adds a mechanical keyboard, HDMI, and USB ports. You get built-in Atari BASIC, a working cartridge slot, and 25 preloaded games, but the famously uncomfortable joystick returns too. Shipping won’t start until April 2027.
