Sony's new PS5 AI upscaler may not work on older games
Sony's new image upscaling tool for PlayStation 5, called Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), promises improved visuals using AI. But retrofitting older games won't be simple. Unlike Sony’s previous PSSR upscaler, QSSR may require developers to update their games with a newer software kit, which takes significant work. That means you’ll likely see this boost only in recent or biggest older games, not the whole PS5 library.
- QSSR is Sony's new AI-based image upscaling for PS5
- Older games may need updates to support QSSR
- Previous PSSR worked easily with old SDKs, unlike QSSR
- Effort needed may discourage developers from patching older games
- Only major or recent titles likely to get support
