Cotierra lands $3M to expand biochar tech for tropical farms
Cotierra, a Swiss climate-tech startup, has raised $3 million to ramp up its decentralized biochar technology for tropical agriculture. The company's platform lets farmers turn agricultural waste into biochar—a form of charcoal that improves soil health and locks away carbon—using local reactors and a digital tool to monitor output. Having already piloted the tech with coffee growers, Cotierra now plans to expand to crops like cocoa, cotton, and citrus.
- Cotierra raised $3M, total funding now $4.75M
- Tech combines small-scale reactors and a digital monitoring platform
- Pilots began in coffee, expansion targets cocoa, cotton, citrus
- Carbon Removal Partners and Paulig's PINC led the funding round
