Microsoft enables Windows settings backup by default for orgs
Microsoft has turned on Windows settings backup by default for all enterprise devices joined to its Entra service that upgrade to Windows 11 version 26H2. This means most organizational PCs will have settings and app lists automatically backed up—unless administrators already set a policy to override it or the device is in a regulated environment. Restoring settings after a reset or upgrade still requires admin approval.
- Default applies to Entra-joined enterprise systems
- Covers device resets, upgrades, and replacements
- Admins can override with their own policy
- Does not enable restore by default
- Not available in EU DMA or restricted environments
